BMW Motorrad S 1000 XR (2025–Present)

Stage 1 & Stage 2 Performance Software Tune

The 2025+ BMW S 1000 XR blends superbike performance with upright comfort, but the stock Euro-5+ calibration still holds it back. Mid-range torque and lower-gear performance are restricted, and many riders find the throttle a bit abrupt at low speed, especially with luggage or a passenger.

Our S 1000 XR ECU calibration is built for fast road riding, touring and track-day use. It delivers a stronger, more flexible mid-range for effortless overtakes and highway work, while smoothing throttle response and optimizing engine-braking for a more relaxed yet precise feel.

The XR responds especially well to a cleaner, less restricted mid-range. With our calibration the bike pulls harder from low rpm, holds gear better on climbs and with luggage, and feels more responsive when rolling on the throttle to overtake – exactly what you want from a performance touring platform.

Stage 1 – S 1000 XR Focus

For the S 1000 XR, Stage 1 is tuned around real-world mixed use:

  • Stronger, more linear mid-range torque for two-up and loaded touring
  • Smoother low-rpm response to reduce surging and jerkiness at town speeds
  • Refined engine-braking for stable, predictable behavior on long descents and fast sweepers
  • Maintains full functionality of BMW riding modes and rider aids, so the electronics continue to work as intended in all conditions

Programming Options

2. OBD Port Tuning – At AMT Tuning Ltd

  • Vehicle tuned directly via the OBD port in our workshop
  • No ECU removal required
  • Includes test ride and optional datalog analysis (where applicable)

3. ECU Mail-In Service

If you prefer, the ECU can be removed and shipped to us for bench programming.

Powergate 4 – How It Works

The Alientech Powergate 4 is a modern handheld ECU tuning tool that allows you to read and write your bike’s ECU software via the OBD port, using a dedicated smartphone app.

Basic Workflow

  1. Connect to the bike
    Connect Powergate to your vehicle through the OBD diagnosis port with the supplied cable and wait for the LED strip to turn BLUE.
  2. Pair with your smartphone
    • Download the Powergate App (iOS, Android, EMUI).
    • Create or log in with your ALIEN_id profile.
    • Pair the device to your phone via Bluetooth (LED shows BLUE during pairing).
  3. Connect to the internet
    • Connect both Powergate and your smartphone to the same internet network.
    • Use home Wi-Fi or your phone’s hotspot.
  4. Select your vehicle
    • Choose brand, model, fuel type and engine in the app.
    • Confirm engine variant from your registration documents if needed.
  5. Identification
    • Perform ECU identification.
    • During this step, Powergate will be illuminated RED.
  6. Reading the ECU
    • Start a full ECU read.
    • Reading time varies by ECU; wait until the operation completes (LED remains RED).
    • The original file is automatically uploaded to the secure Cloud.
  7. File preparation by AMT
    • We receive your original file, create your tuned Stage 1 or Stage 2 map, and upload it back to the Cloud.
    • When ready, the tune will appear in the app under the WRITE section.
  8. Writing the tuned file
    • From the app, select the tuned file and start the write process.
    • Do not disconnect the device until the operation is complete.
    • When finished, the LED guide will light up GREEN and the tune is active.

Your original stock file remains stored and can be flashed back at any time, so the process is completely reversible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the tune reversible?
Yes. Your original stock file is always stored and can be flashed back at any time using the Powergate 4 tool or directly in our workshop.

Will this void my warranty?
Any ECU modification can potentially affect warranty decisions by a dealer. Our calibrations stay within safe limits, keep OEM protections active and are designed for long-term reliability, but final warranty decisions are always at the discretion of BMW.

Is Stage 1 safe for street use?
Yes. Stage 1 is developed for pump fuel and normal street/track use, keeping all OEM monitoring (knock control, temperature, lambda) and protection strategies intact.

Who is Stage 2 for?
Stage 2 is for bikes equipped with a full exhaust and decat, typically used for off-road / closed-course track use. It is not intended for emission-controlled public road use.
